The annual IIHF tournament gets underway Friday, December 26, and runs through the bronze and gold medal games on Monday, January 5. Ten teams from across North America and Europe will come together in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, for the event.

Hockey Canada apologized after skipping postgame handshakes following a 7-5 win over Czechia in the World Juniors opener on Friday, Dec. 26.

It is customary for teams to shake hands following games at the World Juniors, but Canada skated off the ice on Friday in Minneapolis without doing so after a heated affair that included some pre-game antics, plenty of chirping between players and post-whistle scrums.

Latvia upset Canada in the 2025 edition of the tournament and came close this time. But, it was Canada who advanced to 2-0.

Canada 2, Latvia 1 (OT): Michael Hage (Montreal Canadiens) scored a power-play goal 44 seconds into overtime, and Canada won its second straight game in Group B at 3M Arena at Mariucci on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
