Brigitte Bardot dies: French film icon and 1960s sex symbol passes away aged 91 in Saint-Tropez
French movie star and singer Brigitte Bardot has died at the age of 91. Born in Paris in 1934, the actress shot to international fame with the 1956 film And God Created Woman, written and directed by her then-husband Roger Vadim. It is believed Bardot died weeks after undergoing surgery and battling a sudden illness.
It was Brando (with The Wild One in 1953) and Bardot who manifested the youthful desires and rebellions of the new generation of teen Baby Boomers, and showed that the new era of pop culture - taken up by Elvis, The Beatles, Twiggy - would be sexually expressive, dismissive of social mores and promise liberation for a generation.
